Level 3 Certificate in Working as a Close Protection Operative within the Private Security Industry

This course covers all elements of working as a Close Protection Security Operative, from planning operations and identifying possible hazards to successfully preventing or resolving conflicts.

This course provides a qualification for individuals who work or would like to work as Close Protection Officers. It is based on specifications set by the Security Industry Authority, and certification allows candidates to apply for an SIA licence in Close Protection.

This course is split into three mandatory units:

  • Conflict Management within the Private Security Industry
  • Planning, Preparing and Supporting a Close Protection Operation
  • Working as Close Protection Operative
  • Externally set and marked multiple choice examination papers
  • Externally set and internally marked question paper
  • Series of practical tasks/assignments

In the course of their work security officers are likely to have contact with emergency services, or need to communicate calmly and efficiently in order to prevent and resolve conflict. It is therefore advisable for candidates to possess:

  • B1 Level qualification on the Home Office’s list of recognised English tests and qualifications
  • An ESOL qualification at (Level 1) on the Ofqual register taken in England, Wales or Northern Ireland
  • An ESOL qualification at Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework level 5 awarded by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) and taken in Scotland
  • Functional Skills Level 1 in English
  • SQA Core Skills in Communication at Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework level 5
  • Essential Skills Wales Communication Level 1
