This course provides industry-recognised certification for individuals who would like to work as a Security Guard.

The course is based upon the Security Industry Authority’s Specification for Learning and Qualifications in Security Guarding; successful completion of the course allows learners to apply for an SIA licence in this field. Assessments for all three mandatory units in this course are conducted via externally set and marked multiple-choice exams.

The units are:

  • Conflict Management within the Private Security Industry
  • Working as a Security Officer within the Private Security Industry
  • Working within the Private Security Industry

Externally set and marked multiple choice exam, carried out under exam conditions

In the course of their work security officers are likely to have contact with emergency services, or need to communicate calmly and efficiently in order to prevent and resolve conflict. Candidates must therefore possess:

  • B1 Level qualification on the Home Office’s list of recognised English tests and qualifications
  • Functional Skills Level 1 in English
  • Essential Skills Wales Communication Level 1
  • An ESOL qualification at (Level 1) on the Ofqual register taken in England, Wales or Northern Ireland
  • SQA Core Skills in Communication at Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework level 5
  • An ESOL qualification at Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework level 5 awarded by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) and taken in Scotland
